How long do ice sculptures last?

The temperature and the setting greatly influences the longevity of the sculpture, but at room temperature a sculpture can last up to 6 hours. However, large sculptures in optimal conditions can last significantly longer!

What can be sculpted out of ice?

Almost anything can be sculpted from a bock of ice, just keep in mind that ice does melt & it needs to be able to support it’s own weight. If you are wondering whether your sculpture idea is possible or not, Jess can talk through your idea with you!

How long does it take to make an ice sculpture?

Complexity & sizing can make a significant difference 3-12 hours is a good starting point for high quality sculptures. Demonstrations can be done & one block sculptures take less time than multi-block sculptures.

When should the ice sculpture be delivered?

Approximately 1 to 1.5 hours ahead of your guests arriving in most cases (ice bars, luges, small to medium displays, etc.)

How much does an ice sculpture weigh?

Single block ice sculptures typically weigh from 150 lbs – 250 lbs. Large walls & large designs can be extremely heavy!

Do you deliver?

Yes, we deliver & ensure the safety of your sculpture to destinations primarily in Northern Colorado, Cheyenne to Denver. We often are working in ski resort towns & Colorado Springs as well. A simple phone call can clarify any concerns.

Can the sculpture be outdoors?

Yes, but it is very important to keep the ice out of direct sunlight.  Sunlight can have adverse effects on the appearance of the ice as well as the longevity of the sculpture.

Can guests watch you make a sculpture?

Yes, we do demonstrations that in most cases last 2-3 hours, but can vary.  Demonstrations can be very entertaining for guests, but do require proper accomodations be met for safety, noise & other details.

What happens to all the water when the sculpture starts to melt?

When the water needs to be contained to not damage flooring or create an unsafe condition, a drip pan can be used with hoses to contain all the water as it melts away.

How much do they cost?

Cool Hand Ice works with smaller designs for a grand opening or a birthday party that can be several hundred dollars. We also work on large scale projects that require multiple artists & helpers that are drawn in from around the United States & sometimes international talent is brought in for special proects that cost tens of thousands of dollars. So, there is a wide variety of projects that can be fulfilled. We handle all clients with the same level of professionalism & we feel that our corporate clients beneit from our very personal service & local private clients benefit from our experience that extends around the globe.

What kind of tools do you use?

We have homemade tools, manufacturing equipment, chainsaws, chisels, dremels, grinders, router bits, CNC machines (AKA a computer numerical control system), etc…

How far in advance should an order be placed?

At a minimum, 3 weeks. We completely understand the need for last minute requests & we will fulfill them based on our scheduled events & type of service that is needed. Give us a call because there is always the possibility that we can work with you!
